Children of Fallen Patriots

Children of Fallen Patriots provides college scholarships and educational counseling to the children of military personnel who have been killed in the line of duty. Our goal is to bridge the gap in funding between available sources of grants and scholarships (i.e., VA Chapter 33 or 35, federal, state, local and private grants) and the total cost of college. We hope to ensure that no child covered by our mission has to go out-of-pocket or take on loans to pay for college. Research conducted by The Lucas Group on behalf of Fallen Patriots found that more than 20,000 dependents have been left behind by troops killed in the line of military duty over the past 36 years. Many surviving families struggle to make ends meet with sixty percent of surviving spouses making less than $50,000 per year. Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation works to find each of these children with the intent of giving them the future they deserve.

In 1989, five days before Christmas, Sergeant William Delaney Gibbs from the 7th Infantry Division was killed in action during Operation Just Cause in Panama. He left behind a young wife and an unborn daughter. Fallen Patriots Founder, David Kim, served with Sergeant Gibbs and was inspired by his sacrifice to establish the Foundation as a way to help Sergeant Gibbs' daughter and thousands of military children like her. To date, we have provided $10 million in support and started a pipeline for approximately 6,000 children of our fallen, roughly 1/3 of those in need. There are many, many more children who need our help, which will require millions more to find and enroll them, and to fund their college education.
