Eric Sprott

Eric Sprott is Founder, Chief Investment Officer and Senior Portfolio Manager of Sprott Asset Management LP. He has accumulated over 40 years of experience in the investment industry and is considered one of Canada’s premier investment managers. Leading a team comprised of the top investment professionals in the country, he is dedicated to achieving superior returns for investors over the long-term through a collection of mutual funds, hedge funds, and structured products.
Eric entered the investment industry as a research analyst for Merrill Lynch after earning his designation as a Chartered Accountant. In 1981, he founded Sprott Securities (now called Cormark Securities Inc.), which today is one of Canada's largest independently owned securities firms. After establishing Sprott Asset Management Inc. in 2001 as a separate entity, Eric divested his ownership of Sprott Securities and began to focus solely on investment management.
Eric's investment abilities are well represented in his track record managing the Sprott Hedge Fund Strategy, for which he has received numerous accolades over the years. In 2004, the strategy was the winner of the “Opportunistic Strategy Hedge Fund” award at the Canadian Investment Awards. Two years later, the strategy was awarded the 2006 “MarHedge Annual Performance Award” for Canadian based managers. That same year, Eric was the recipient of Ernst & Young’s “Entrepreneur of the Year” award for financial services and “Entrepreneur of the Year” for Ontario. In 2007, Eric was named “Fund Manager of the Year” by Investment Executive, a widely circulated publication for Canadian financial advisors. In 2008, the strategy won the award for the “Best Long/Short Hedge Fund” globally by HFM Week, and in 2010 the strategy was awarded “Hedge Fund of the Year” at the Absolute Return Awards in New York. Most recently, Eric was named “Top Financial Visionary in Canada” by Advisor.ca.
