South Carolina Treasurer Curtis M. Loftis, Jr. was sworn in as State Treasurer in January of 2011. As Treasurer, Loftis is the “private banker” for South Carolina, responsible for the investment, cash management, and safekeeping of the State's general and restricted funds along with the assets of the South Carolina Retirement Systems.
Mr. Loftis began his public service career in 2007, serving as the Director of The South Carolina Lieutenant Governor’s Office on Aging. In 2008, Loftis served as the Director of Transparency in the South Carolina Comptroller General’s Office. Prior to his time in public service, Mr. Loftis spent 20 years running a successful Carolina business and continues to be the majority owner In 2001 Loftis founded and became the sole benefactor of the Saluda Charitable Foundation, a 501(c)3 organization devoted to medical and humanitarian mission work in eastern Europe and South America.
Loftis was born in Columbia, South Carolina and graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1981. He resides in West Columbia.
