Mike Edleson
Chief Risk Officer: The University of Chicago
Mike joined the University of Chicago Office of Investments as Managing Director & CRO in early 2010, responsible for the risk management of the University’s endowment of over $6B. Since joining, the endowment has reported annual returns of +18.86% and +18.85%.
From 2003 to 2010, he ran risk management globally for four divisions of Morgan Stanley as Managing Director, including Equities and Morgan Stanley Smith Barney. Previously, he worked as Chief Economist and Senior Vice President of NASDAQ and NASD. Mike was a finance professor at Harvard Business School for over six years, following four years on the faculty at West Point; he was an Army engineer officer and served over 29 years in uniform, active and reserve.
Mike serves or has served on the boards of directors of several organizations and publicly-traded companies. He has written a few books on investing and has been co-editor and associate editor of two finance journals. Mike earned a B.S. from West Point and an M.S. and Ph.D. in economics from MIT, and is a CFA charterholder.
